Meet Melisa. She is the gorgeous face behind the popular lifestyle blog, Pie N’ The Sky. She’s also a graphic designer, among many other things, and she designed my blog! Melisa has such a sweet spirit and her creativity is inspiring. She’s also a girly girl so I asked her to share with us her beauty essentials, the secrets behind her amazing hair and much more. Enjoy!
Tell us about your gorgeous self!
I’m currently living in Texas working as a substitute teacher and in part-time ministry. In the past few years my passion for the creative arts has grown and grown. As of late I’ve been throwing a great amount of energy & time into pursuing a more creative career with Pie N’ the Sky. Pie N’ the Sky has many facets, and it not only allows me to be a blogger, but a designer for my shop, a graphic designer, and even an occasional photographer. I love using my hands to make things; there’s always such a sense of accomplishment when I utilize my time and energy to create something I can be proud of, and people actually want to buy! I love what I do and I’m grateful for a flexible job that allows me to live out my passion and dream.
Pie N’ the Sky also participates in several craft fairs in the Southern area. This always keeps me busy and motivated. This years we will be at Cedar Hill’s Walk the Light Festival on March 16th and Austin’s Annual Renegade Craft Fair on May 19th and 20th. If you’re in the area, I’d love to meet you!
What are your 5 beauty products you can’t live without?
1.) YSL Shocking Mascara: I have always had an unhealthy obsession with mascara and will usually, at any given point, have at least 5 different ones in my makeup bag. For years and years I have searched for the perfect mascara and I must say that this one is the closest I’ve come to perfection. I love it because it makes my eyelashes fuller, longer and fluffier. It doesn’t clump, dry them out or make them spidery; it does everything a great mascara should!
2.) Daisy Perfume: I’m in love with this scent! I have other perfumes I enjoy, such as Gucci by Gucci, D & G Light Blue, Nina by Nina Ricci, and Gucci Guilty. However, Daisy is the best! The scent is so light and pretty and just makes me feel so special.
3.) Bare Minerals Foundation: I have used this foundation for over ten years and I absolutely refuse to ever change to anything else. I used to have acne scars and this foundation cleared them like magic. It’s light enough to where I don’t feel like I’m wearing makeup, but the coverage is impeccable. The price doesn’t hurt either.
4.) Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Radiance: This primer is flawless. This product is one of my newer finds, but after one use I knew I was hooked. It gives your skin such radiance that honestly you could just wear the primer and do away with the foundation, in my opinion.
5.) Smith’s Lip Balm: I think every girl who’s tried this balm can attest to this – this is the greatest thing you could ever put on your lips! That’s really all that needs to be said.
Who is your beauty icon?
I would probably have to say Alessandra Ambrosio; her skin and hair are just so flawless.
The natural look: Underrated or Overrated?
Underrated for sure. I always go by the philosophy that less is more. I enjoy being simple and understated in all that I do, so a more natural look is something I always hope to achieve. That’s not to say that you can’t still have fun with makeup, just highlighting your natural beauty is what makes you feel more confident, in my opinion.
Lipstick or lipgloss?
Lipgloss. I have tried on occasion to be a lipstick girl, but it’s just not in me. Lipgloss has always been a go to and my favorite would have to be Buxom Lipgloss in Dolly
Quick beauty tip?
3 beauty items always in your purse?
Lipgloss, eyeliner, and lotion
Cheapest beauty item you love?
Rimmel eyeliner in Blackest Black. It’s $3 and it works better than any other designer eyeliner I’ve tried.
Most expensive beauty item you love?
Moroccanoil Restorative Hair Mask – it’s about $60, but it makes my hair so healthy and shiny; it’s worth every penny!
Your hair is so gorgeous. Any secrets?
You are so creative! What inspires you to create all the beautiful little projects and pieces that you share on your blog? Where do you find your inspiration?
I love to create and I’m inspired by everything I see! Sometimes my inspiration will come from a pretty song, or a quiet walk, sometimes it’s after looking at a beautiful lookbook from Anthro or just a conversation with a friend. Inspiration is all around us, but sometimes we’re just too busy to take notice. I try and find the beauty in the simple things.
What has been your favorite creation so far?
This one’s a toughie, but I would have to say my most recent necklaces, True To You necklaces. Each one has an engraved phrase or word, with one of a kind beads suited to each individual buyer. I love the idea of having a one of a kind piece, so that’s what I’ve always strived to give my customers. These pieces are totally customizable too! I actually just made one for my best friend, with her upcoming wedding date! the possibilities are endless!
Favorite healthy snack?
Fruit! I could seriously live off fruit. I was raised in Brazil, so my passion for fruit stemmed from a pretty young age of having the most delicious produce available. They’re a great source of vitamins and sweet goodness:)
Favorite food indulgence?
Chocolate. I have a such a sweet tooth, so my cheats are usually spent on chocolate; in any form really, ha!
Do you cook?
I cook on occasion. Not nearly as much as I’d like to, but I have included several super easy lunch recipes here. With work, I usually have to pack a lunch, so easy and healthy lunches are a must.
I love your wardrobe! How would you describe your style?
My style is pretty and simple. I love to have focus in my outfit – I don’t like to have a lot going on, but would rather have a simple outfit with a great statement piece. I love comfy clothes that look and feel expensive. Dresses and skirts are fun, but I would choose a pair of jeans any day! When building my wardrobe, my goal is to have fun, look put together and not be uncomfortable.
Favorite places to shop?
Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Forever21, Free People, H&M
